Calwell Luce diTrapano Reveals Primary Sponsorship of Last Weekend’s Gold Star Mothers Bridge Ride

Charleston, W.Va. — Calwell Luce diTrapano PLLC, a law firm on Charleston’s West Side, proudly participated as the primary sponsor of last weekend’s Gold Star Mothers Bridge Ride at the New River Gorge Bridge. The sponsorship enabled the event host, the West Virginia Veterans Assistance Project, to expand the event’s photography and multimedia production efforts in broadcasting the endearing stories of West Virginia’s Gold Star Mothers.

The law firm’s founder, Stuart Calwell, served as a medic in the National Guard 19th Special Forces Group of the United States Army Special Forces. “As a veteran, I’ve seen the emotional devastation that occurs within military families when a service member dies,” said Calwell. “Gold Star Mothers operate year-round to help bring comfort to active-duty service members and their families by creating living memorials for the fallen, visiting homes and hospitals, and ensuring they know someone is always there for them, especially around the holidays,” Calwell added. “It is a high honor to support the poignant and meaningful endeavors of West Virginia’s Gold Star Mothers.”

“My siblings and I grew up watching the New River Gorge Bridge being built, and it was a perfect setting for the West Virginia Veterans Assistance Project to host the annual Gold Star Mothers Bridge Ride,” said Melissa Luce, the firm’s managing partner, who was born and raised in Fayetteville. “My family has always believed in giving back and, along with my firm, we care deeply about our veterans, which is why I’m extremely proud to have sponsored an event that raises funds for veteran-oriented agencies in West Virginia.”

Dante’ diTrapano, another partner with the firm, stated the sponsorship enabled, among other things, the West Virginia Veterans Assistance Project to film interviews with Gold Star Mothers. “These video clips will forever remind us of the sacrifices these families have endured,” said diTrapano. “Hearing Gold Star Mothers talk about their fallen children is heartbreaking,” diTrapano added. “This is an important cause to support.”

This year’s event included activities spanning scenic locations throughout Fayette, Kanawha, Nicholas, and Raleigh Counties. Bikers and other motorsports enthusiasts gathered in Charleston at the State Capitol on Friday, October 13th, and traveled in unison to Summersville for the evening’s activities. The ride for fallen heroes took place on Saturday, October 14th, wherein hundreds of participants from sixteen states crossed the New River Gorge Bridge in both directions. This was followed by a scavenger hunt at twelve different locations across several counties. The event concluded in Mt. Nebo with a free concert Saturday evening.
